A Heart…

Give:

1. Capacity to bend or alter in shape under pressure; elasticity.

2. Freely transfer the possession of something to someone; handover to

3. Cause or allow someone or something to have something, especially something abstract; provide or supply.

The heart of a giver remains in the constant state of elasticity. Always adaptable and malleable with any environment standing in its atmosphere. Giving, receiving, letting go, obtaining, maintaining, forgiving….are all qualities of an elastic heart. The grounds of it stems from our giving. Questions like: How much are you willing to give up for this? How much more can you extend yourself in spite of your wants and need? These come to mind when I think about the grounds of our heart. All of this is attainable and within our reach but often only revealed under pressure. I know, I can hear you already. There comes that place again, when the walls feel like they are closing in and everything is just getting tighter and tighter. Something about that word pressure just screams, “Alert, alert,” over and over again. But, I must say life has shown itself to be faithful in the discovery that anything that represents or says itself to be true beauty must be tried by pressure. When the shaking, tossing and molding comes to a cease what is left comes out undeniably bright even if it means you may have to lose it all to gain bountifully on a series.

Anything that requires a stretching, also comes with elimination. Many times we want to run away from the stripping that comes with the stretch. When I am leading my students through their routine stretch in my class, I always tell them the only way to get deeper into the stretch is to make sure your form is correct and to keep breathing. Immediately when they hear me say this they automatically begin to look around the classroom to make sure they are doing the exercise in the right positioning. This check of their environment helps them to re align themselves back to where they need to be. Therefore eliminating the previous learned way along with a new breath they’ve found to dive deeper into the stretch in the midst of the pain. Similar to how our heart functions. We unlearn a way which requires elimination and a trading of an old pattern for a new canvas. In all of this there is so much space and room that needs to be given for the new muscles in this new way to be developed properly. This is how our heart functions. It consists of stretching, elimination and space. Three components that we should not take likely but rather be an active participant in order to come into the beauty of what a real heart looks like. One that is filled with elasticity, and full of brightness. One that maintains this formula with the foundation of giving.
